MATH Clubs & Contest Update

Due to liability concerns of the volunteer parent group associated with the below clubs that are solely run by parent volunteers, we do not feel comfortable and have decided not to offer the following at GATE for 2024/2025 school year:

  • Elementary MOEMS (Math Olympiad) Club and Contest

  • Middle school MOEMS (Math Olympiad) Contest

  • MATHCOUNTS Club

What we can offer

AMC 8 COMPETITION

  • Competition WILL be offered this year as we have a staff member scheduled to proctor this contest.

  • Tentative date for AMC 8 contest is Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025

  • Registration forms will be published in GATE Gazette in November with a registration fee of $10.

  • This is a middle school contest but it is open for ambitious elementary students that have a solid grasp of middle school math concepts and ideally previous experience with competitive math problem solving. It is highly advised for a student with no previous AMC 8 experience to attempt to solve a recent AMC8 contest before registering.

IMPORTANT: Registered Students will be eligible to take the contest at school. They will need to individually prepare for the contest. No coaching provided. Previous contest problems and solutions can be found at https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php/AMC_8_Problems_and_Solutions

MATHCOUNTS

  • Sanja Sljivar Lovria has been given permission to register Avondale GATE school for MathCounts Competition

  • Maximum of 14 students can be registered for Chapter Competition.

  • Registration cost is $40 per student until Nov 1st. It will need to be paid before the student is registered and it’s non-refundable.

  • Registered students will participate in Chapter Competition which will take place in February. Date/Location/Time TBD. Parents/guardians are responsible for taking the student to the competition.

Note: Last year we were not notified of the chapter competition date/place until December. We were given the schedule of events in January.

  • Students can qualify for the State Competition which takes place in March. Last year, state competition information wasn't released until February.

  • Last year’s contests can be found here:https://www.mathcounts.org/resources/past-competitions

  • It is highly suggested for students with no MATHCOUNTS experience to attempt to solve last year’s Chapter Level Sprint and Target Rounds before deciding to register.

  • Due to material covered in MATHCOUNTS problems it is best suited to students that are currently in Algebra 1 or higher math class.

  • To determine the number of students interested in registering for MATHCOUNTS Competition, please fill out the form below by October 19th, 2024. Once we know the number of students interested in registering, we’ll contact you with the next steps.

Robotics Program

Dear Avondale School District Families and Administrators,

We are excited to invite you to be a part of Avondale's premier robotics program: the RoboJackets! Our program, tailored for students in grades K-8, offers an enriching experience in robotics and STEM that inspires curiosity, fosters teamwork, and develops problem-solving skills.

To make this program a success, we need your support! We are currently facing a challenge: we have more students eager to join than we have available team supervisors. We cannot move forward without sufficient parent and guardian volunteers to lead our teams. If you are interested in helping our program thrive by becoming a team supervisor, we encourage you to sign up using the form below.

If you wish to sign up your child but prefer not to take on the role of a team supervisor, you can still use the same form to register. However, please note that priority for team slots will be given to students whose parents or guardians are willing to serve as team supervisors. Please review the attached program details and complete this form as soon as possible. Spots fill up quickly, so act soon to ensure your child's participation. We look forward to a fantastic season with our RoboJacket family!

Thank you for your support and involvement!
